Perhaps EUR 500 from Amsterdam to Paris, but USD 50 gets you to about Leiden from
Amsterdam.

Forget it. It is a four hour drive. (and you need to drive fast) No way a taxi driver
will take you to Paris from Amsterdam for USD 50.

That may be the fare for Paris-Antwerp, as well, but it is the fare listed for
Paris-Amsterdam.
Actually, there appear to be multiple fares. It is sometimes EUR62 full fare and
EUR56 discount, but at other times EUR56 full fare and EUR51 discount.
Nonetheless, unless lowest cost is the absolute overriding criterion, I would
recommend trying for a 'mini' fare on the Thalys. The additional speed, comfort, and
often convenience (the Thalys runs from Gare du Nord to Amsterdam Centraal, while the
bus runs from Gallieni to Amstel) are well worth the extra ~EUR20.
