Default packing question...

Hi. Has anyone tried those Eagle Creek packing cubes or packing
folders? Are they really worth the $$$? I know Rick Steves sells 3 for
about $16, but I am wondering if they're worth even that...

Appreciate everyone's thoughts and opinions!

Thanks!

If I had any idea at all of what you are talking about then I may
have been in a position to advise.

Whatever they are, I'd be surprised if they achieve anything that cannot be
accomplished with tissue paper and common sense.

I have several of these. Any yes they are very handy cause I can squeeze clothes in them and it becomes easier to organize them once I'm at my hotel or place staying. I have one for shirts, small item clothing, pants, etc . You don't have to use Eagle creek brand but I usually do for the warranty. They are pricey but in my opinion well worth it. The downside of using these cubes and folders is weight. It does add some weight to your bag. The folders are nice for dress shirts or clothing that might g
et wrinkled easily. I use a small compression bad for socks and underwear and other clothing that can be wrinkled.

3 for $16 depending on the size is a great price. I think the cube for my t-shirts was over $16.

I tried the packing folders, and I didn't see any advantage to them. As
long as your suitcase is packed tightly enough that your clothes don't shift
around, I think they stay just as unwrinkled without the folders. They
would probably be worthwhile though if you use a soft unshaped bag or
backpack.

3 for $16 sounds like a good deal to me, but I guess it depends what
size they are. I've heard about off brand packing cubes being sold
quite cheaply - you might want to check all the usual retail suspects
and see if you can find them.

I'm thinking about getting 1 or 2 of the small packing cubes to keep
little things organised in my backpack. I use ziplocks for that
purpose now, but they can get a bit bedraggled over a long trip.

Yes, and Ziplocs are so slick, they slide around a lot, and don't really
stay in place.

I use them primarily to store & organize clothes that are only for
travel. It lets me grab stuff for a given environment and get ready
quickly. FFM

I really like them... OK I'm an addict. The vacuum bags are the best.

I used 'stuff bags', nylon bags with drawstrings. They serve the same
purpose but don't presupport a size and fit for a cube. For what it's
worth. Organizing stuff really is nice, but there are alternatives. I
got my stuff sacks at an outdoor equipment store in the city.

I'm not the most organized person in the world BUT I *love* mine. Wouldn't
do without them. I keep a small one for toiletries, another small one for
undies & socks, and two medium ones for my clothes. That's usually all I
need for a week or less.

The ones I have are different sizes than the Eagle Creek ones, but the
same concept.

Well, you can stuff stuff INTO the packing cubes, allowing them to be
packed more densely than a suitcase as a whole. And tissue paper is more
expensive if you travel a lot.

IMO, if you need to do that, you have packed too much. The only real
essentials are your passport, your ticket and a couple of credit or charge
cards. Increasingly, the ticket is becoming obsolete.
