opodo.fr - French internet stupidity
I have been trying to book a car on opodo.fr. It is much cheaper to do
so than on opodo.co.uk, but maybe there's a reason for that - you can't
actually book unless you live in France.
The website requires the address of the credit card holder - reasonable
enough - but requires that be in the format of 5 digits, i.e. the French
format. Although you can specify another country where you live, e.g.
"Pays Bas", you can't enter a NL postcode (4 digits, 2 letters) so your
address never matches the bank's address, so it refuses your payment.

When wil the French catch up with the internet?

It is common for car hire prices to vary according to the country you are
booking from. Often that is due to their insurers setting different
premiums, depending upon the accident history of drivers from the country
concerned.

In your opinion, for which reason they built two web site, opodo.co.uk
and opodo.fr?

I've no idea - since I don't live in the UK the question doesn't
concern me.
If they don't want to rent cars to NL residents why do they have a
drop-down menu that allows me to select Pays Bas ??

I really don't know. Maybe is due to a company policy connected to the
renter credit card nationality.
For example, Austrian Airlines doesn't allow to buy a ticket for a
flight departing from a different country of the credit card.

I could understand that, but this is not, I think, a case of rental
policy, so much as a case of half-witted website design. The price is
given on screen one, and it's not until screen 99, when you enter the
cardholder's address, that a problem arises.

There is a device called a telephone. Just pick up the part of the
device with the wire attached and push the buttons in the proper
sequence yo connect with your party, oh I forgot stick the device in
your ear and hold it there while you. And by all means be polite.
