One Week in Ireland

Does anyone have a good itinerary? We will be driving, though I'd
prefer to be without a car in Dublin.
Also, does anyone know if one can easily fly into Dublin and out of
Shannon(i.e. "open jaw")? That would make trip planning a bit easier,
though I guess there must be cheap local airline routes between the two
airports. Thanks.

I enjoyed driving and walking around Mizen and Ring of Beara.
Combined with a stop in Killarney National Park; that easily
consumed a week.

Don't try too much. You could easily spend a week just on Dublin and its
environs. Perhaps a few days in the Southeast. I would not attempt the
"grand tour" with anything less than two weeks.

Well, you certainly can but it might increase the airfare. We flew into
Shannon and took the bus & train to Dublin where we stayed a few days before
picking up our rental car then driving a loop that ended back a Shannon.
Check the bus schedule. Had we been a few minutes earlier, we could had
taken an express bus that would have arrived in central Dublin about an hour
and a half after. As it was, changing from bus to train, etc ate up much of
our first day in Ireland.

We rented a car last year when leaving Dublin, then drove around and
dropped the car at Shannon. We had no possibility of flying out of
Shannon, so we took an express bus back to Dublin.
My trip report should be available on the google archives. I thought
we did a pretty good itinerary, although part of the week was spent
visiting relatives in Northern Ireland. You could substitute something
else for that part of it if you don't want to see beautiful County
Tyrone.
