I plan to attend the upcoming North Sea Jazz Festival this summer with
my 18 year old son and was wondering whether anyone has any advice
regarding the annual 3 day event. I would also be interested to know
if anyone could recommend an interesting hotel located in the area of
the event(s).

Get fit in advance and wear a good pair of shoes. It will test anybodys
endurance.
The only hotel in the close vicinity of the conference centre is the
Bel-Air, an "international" multi-storey hotel. The musicians always used to
stay there (don't know if they still do), and this is where I had dinner
with Hank Jones and Eddie Barefield in 1977. Also met the whole Count Basie
band, and had a drink in the bar with Oscar Peterson. Great days.
