Default non smoking restaurants

It seems fairly hard to find reliable and comprehensive lists of
non-smoking restaurants (or decent non-smoking areas) in Europe (well,
Norway, Ireland and Italy excepted!), and guide books don't tend to
mention it, though some do. I wonder if anyone has found some good sites
with up-to-date information. in particular, I'm researching Krakow,
Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava for next month.

A couple of years ago there was a guy who used to post links to such a
list at the slightest provocation - have you checked that out? Afraid I
can't recall the URL.

I remember that- cygne something. I actually checked that site and
didn't find them very useful, at least for where I'm going. On the
internet so far, it seems fairly easy to find links to UK and even some
French restaurants, but I'm finding it harder elsewhere...

Didn't he get run over in one of the car free cities he also
publicised? :-)

A guess is that such restaurants in those cities are more or less
non-existing.
A smokefree table or a smokefree section at most I guess.
McD remains but that's not what you're looking for ?

A smoke free table assumes that the smoke doesn't drift

A smoke free section assumes that the smoke doesn't drift.

Try to tell the difference between the smoke & smoke free sections on
the P&O North Sea Ferries.

I remember doing a take away in Vienna, due to smoke.
And I remember the 'full smoking' airport.

I think there must be some in those cities- for example 'health food'
restaurants, which I know do exist. I've read of a smoke-free cafe in
Vienna (which lonely planet conceded was very rare)

    > A smokefree table or a smokefree section at most I guess.

Yes- or if the weather is fine, al fresco. That's why smoke doesn't
really bother me that much in Spain or Greece- I'm rarely eating inside.

    > McD remains but that's not what you're looking for ?

No, but you're right- they are non-smoking. Frankly, a good meal getting
polluted by a cigaretteaholic at the opposite table is probably as
enjoyable as a McD burger would be...

I'm getting increasingly hardline about this. In the UK, I won't go to a
restaurant unless it has a well _ventilated_ separate non-smoking
section, and patronise completely non-smoking restaurants whenever
possible. That said, in a couple of years, all UK restaurants will
likely become non-smoking.

If you stick to the no smoking areas on the IJmuiden Newcastle DFDS
ferry, your clothes stink of tobacco smoke.

they're talking about smoke free something in Belgium in 2007, though
last time they mentioned the subject it was 2006. Still it is summer
time and I can sit up wind.
