Default Night Train from Paris to Rome

Help, we have booked 2 tickets for the night train #227 from Paris to
Rome in August and now we've found out that we are in a compartment
for 4 which is supposed to be first class. What I wanted to book was
a double sleeper in first class, not a couchette.
I've tired several times to book a double on-line using SNCF's
website, however it will not let me book a double. I keep getting an
error message. What can I do?????
We are not going to spend 14 hours with two strangers in a small
compartment on upper bunks.
Please help.

The simplest possibility would be that you can't get a sleeper for this
train.

Note that flying is often cheaper these days.

Err... have you tried e-mailing or calling whoever you bought the tickets
from?

I have emailed SNCF because I purchased them on line directly from
their website. Unfortuantly they don't always reply to thier
emails....
I was bit curious if they even still have double sleepers on this
route or are they all 4 & 6 bunk couchettes.

Agreed, it may be cheaper to fly. Both www.skyscanner.net/
and www.low-cost-airline-guide.com/ specialize in Euopean
flights, and I've found www.expedia.com to be useful as well.
You should have time to cancel the reservation and return the
tickets. =R

Years ago, there were only couchettes that were 2nd class from Venice to
Munich. The 4 person first class compartment had seats that sort of made a
bed. Ended up sleeping on the aisle floor. No Couchettes available. Day
after school let out, so train was super crowded.

Not when you add a night in some hotel.

The 227 is a EuroNight train and, strcictly speaking, is not
operated by SNCF. There is a good possibility that all the
two-person compartments are already booked.

Long ago I had a boss who demonstrated that it was cheaper to spend a night in
brothel in Zurich than in a hotel, This excluded subsequent medical treatment.

If it's the same type of train (Artesia) that I took from Paris to
Milan, I think it did have only couchettes. However, when you bought
the tickets from the sncf site, it should have been obvious what you
were getting. I had ordered a berth in a 6-couchette compartment and
was offered a cheap upgrade to a 4-berth compartment, which I took.
It was very clear what I was getting.

If you're in a 4-couchette compartment, you will only have 2 strangers
in there with you. I had no problem with the trip and would do it
again. It allows you to leave Paris in the evening and be in Italy the
next morning. Flying usually ruins an entire day.

I suggest that yoiu bring drinking water and a snack. There was no
food or beverages available on the train. The promised breakfast never
materialized.

That's rubbish. Take an evening flight to Italy and be in Italy the same day.
I've sometimes done a days work, before flying via Paris to Italy.
