I am thinking of staying at a hostel at this address:
Herbergvejen 8, 2700 Brønshøj
(see www.danhostel.dk/vandrerhjem.asp?id=93)
or at this address:
Vejlandsallé 200, 2300 København S
(see http://www.danhostel.dk/vandrerhjem.asp?id=92)
Which is more convenient to the city center for sightseeing and to the train
station generally? Which one would you think more convenient?
Thanks for everyone's help on all other queries.

Both of them are quite ok actually.

Brønshøj is a suburb, you'll however have busses close to you,
and a train station some 1km away south-east of you.
Travel time to Copenhagen central, approx 30-40 min,
day or night.

This is on Amager, the island part of the city
It lies in the middle of a large green area, you'll however have
busses only a few minutes walk from you, and a 24h metro running
some 10 mins walk away due east.
Travel time to Nørreport st. some 15 min.
(For some godforsaken reason our metroservice does not run to
Copenhagen central, but Nørreport is as central Copenhagen as you
can get it+the metro will take you around the city very well)

My vote would go to the "vandrehjem" on Vejlands Alle` . Its placed
about 3km from Copenhagen centre in nice green surroundings on a big
open common - next to the large conference centre "Bella Center". Its
quite easy to get to and from there either by bus or the new metro.
And by the way , if you travel to Copenhagen on the bus / catamaran
connection from Aarhus, as was mentioned in an earlier post, you
won`t arrive at the main station , but at Valby Station.
Its quite a large station with lots of train and bus connections,
so if you want to buy a "klippekort" for the two of you, do it here .
And getting from there to the vandrehjem is easy - take bus line
100S towards Bella Center. Ride should take less than 15 mins.
This is a great site for information on Copenhagen:

It is a hostel that has good reviews and seems quite pleasant. So I don't
think we can go wrong staying here.
However, I now was thinking of another option - Copenhagen Sleep-In
(http://www.sleep-in.dk/sleep-in.htm) which is at
Blegdamsvej 132, 2100-Copenhagen, Denmark
Any ideas about the suitability of that location?

Thanks - very useful to know that.

We are considering getting Copenhagen cards -
http://www.visitcopenhagen.dk/copenhagencard . I have to work out if this is
a good value.

Sounds ok. Location is fine - nice neighbourhood with lots of big
and small shops, restaurants and "every day life". And you will find
easy commuting with busses from the Trianglen square , right next to
it.
There is also the fairly busy "Oesterport" train station, a little
less than 1 km away. From this station there are frequent and snappy
"S-tog" (city train) connections to the Main Station as well as Valby
Station.
There are regional trains as well at Oesterport, that runs directly to
Malmoe.
