Naples-Palermo
Hi,
I am planning to go from Naples to Palermo and back by Tirrenia ferry. Has anyone
here done that before, and if yes, how was the experience?
Am I likely to need reservations? (the dates are 13.5. and 23.5, and there are
three of us)
What is a good source to find out the details for a person who can read a little
Italian but can't speak any?

Yes, I did it several years ago. I think it's among the best ways to go. The ferry
travels at night, when you'd mostly be sleeping anyway. The result is that it takes
no real time. As I recall the cost wasn't much different than a hotel would have been
for the night either, so it really didn't cost anything. I would do it again.

I don't know what it's like now, but when I went, reservations were needed,
particularly if you wanted a stateroom with a private bath.

I booked it through a travel agent here in the US.

Ventrix, a friend of mine have done this travel from Napoli to Palermo. I've
forwarded this message to him.
I was not able to find an eglish site for tirrenia. Sorry. But if you know enough
italian you may try http://www.tirrenia.it/html/mainframe.htm on the left click on
"prenotazioni on-line" than use the date in this format 13 05 02 | 23 05 02 Good luck
You may read something about his travel on our magazine.

Re: Naples-Palermo
You'd better book for a cabin, because even if is a very nice trip,
it's overnight, and can be very tiring.
Schedule time Naples to Palermo overnight ferry:
The daily year-round service operates in each direction at 20:45, arriving next morning at 6:30 (less than 10 hours). High-season fares include the following: reclining seat for 44.67 Euros; Double Outside Cabin for 79.53 Euros per person. Fares lower in low and middle seasons. Extra cost for automobiles and other vehicles
We speak English and French. Please visit our site:

I have tried that, and for some reason it automatically assumes that people
have a car.
