Has anyone here ridden the Metro in Paris? Is it as easy to navagate as the
tube?

Six million people ride the Métro every day in Paris.

It's much easier than the Tube, and specialists often cite Paris as
having the best rail mass transit in the world.

Yes it is - except its in French. na, its easy to follow. Strange little
trains they have there though and not as nice as the tube. Watch your wallet
on the metro..lots of pick pockets during peak hour travel.

I have the worst sense of direction than anyone I know but I was able to
master it eventually.

No, Parisians walk.

I have never been on the tube but I found the Paris Metro quite easy to use.
The Maps show a number of different colour coded loops and their stops and
intersection points. My biggest problem was getting myself oriented when I got
out of the station.

The Paris Métro is filled to the brim with signs. You cannot get lost
if you follow the signs. Parisians don't memorize it, either.

My wife and I are fairly helpless Americans, and yet,
we managed to navigate the Metro effortlessly. Just
remember not to mangle your ticket, since you need
to run it thru to exit a station. A kindly Parisian once
[illegally] loaned me her pass when she saw me having
trouble. [R]

Let me be the first to pedantically note that you don't need the ticket
to exit from the Metro, just from the RER. You still need to keep the
ticket, though, in the event you are checked by an inspector.

The maps of the metro are based on the actual geography instead of
simply the system (like tube maps). This means that navigating the
system is a little harder but you maintain a much better feeling of your
actual location. Personally I found it easier to get around Paris.
