I even went to the trouble of being born in Europe, and I still
only see photos of Juan Carlos opening the restaurant i'm in,
never the real Juan.(get the subtle little jokes, huh).
Although my wife did bump into the Queen once, while out for an
early run. Also, the chap I used to play golf with also goes
fishing and hired the same ghillie that the Queen Mum used to
use. Beat that Robert!

The Queen Mother would have smelt of gin and tobacco
The Queen might smell of corgi piss.

You can't relax in Monaco, it's an ant-hill.

Prince Charles used to hunt on my sister's farmland and they'd pop in for
tea out of chipped mugs of a cold morning. na na nana na

So if William meets with the kiss and tell butler (and a thief), what
will be the lead domestic news item of the day ?

In the U.S., it will be covered on all the nightly news programs at some
point during the 30 min broadcast.

IMHO, William shouldn't give this traitor the time of day... let along
some summit.

I get the impression that most people in the UK get to meet royalty
sooner or later, since they put themselves around a lot.

My brother met Prince Charles when he was opening a project my brother
had worked on. My next-door neighbour met the Queen a few years ago --
he'd worked on the Britannia's engines when it was being built in the
mid-50s, and they were having reunions when the ship was being
decommissioned -- he tells me that in those circumstances the Queen is
awesomely well-briefed on her guests, as they have to write a small
essay on what they've done, and she remembers them all when she meets
them.

I collected the full set about 6 years ago. I was in bed one Saturday
morning when the radio was announcing the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
I heard the mail arrive through the front door and was amazed to find an
envelope with "Lord Chamberlain, Buckingham Palace" on the front, which
was inviting me to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party the next month. God
knows how I got on the invitation list, as I've got mild republican
sympathies, but I suppose they have to scrape the barrel to get 20,000
guests to each of the four garden parties every year ! Anyway, I went
out of curiosity to see how the other half lives, and got to see the
Queen, Phil, Liz' Mum, and a number of lesser Dukes and Duchesses who I
can never remember who they are. It was also amazing to see the number
of people in London who are entitled to wear Australian army or Canadian
naval uniform (or indeed Chinese uniforms over by the Diplomatic Tent).
I have to say the royals serve very nice cakes and ice cream.

I don't often watch the TV news, but I would guess 2nd or 3rd,
depends what's been happening elsewhere. He's not thief, see
below.

There are good reasons why he is a "traitor". The royals let him
be accused of something or other and then only half way through
the trial did the Queen "remember" that he was innocent (of what
I forget, was it he was holding some papers for Diana?). he is
now very bitter with the royals.
I assume he was part of the Diana camp in the feuding within the
royals, no doubt they all hate each other.
IMO the Queen should be up for contempt of court or something,
but I suppose that isn't possible :-)

Right then, once my mum was driving through Knighsbridge and saw
the Queen with full bags of shopping, so she stopped the Morris
Minor traveller and said "O Queen, wouldst though like a lift,
marm?" It went OK except she had seen a lot of Henry VIII films
and thought you had to reatreat from Royals walking backwards, as
a result she ran over a beefeater reversing out of Buck House! So
that buggered the OBE.

were *you* joking?

Diana put her self about so much that one of the princes
distinctly looks like that bloke (Hewitt?).

I can only think of one person who has been to a garden party,
ironically the people who worship the royals are probably the
least likely to be asked to one
