Do trains from Malaga airport go to Centro and the RENFE stations. Last time
we were in Malaga we had to use the bus as the train line had been flooded.

What is the world coming to?

"The train station is a five minute walk from the arrivals hall (llegados).
Go up one floor to departures (salidas), take any exit and follow the
Ferrocarril signs to the right. You can buy a ticket on the train. Trains
run half-hourly to Fuengirola to the west and Malaga to the east. If you are
heading for Malaga, be sure you get off at the last station, Centro-Alameda,
not the previous stop Malaga-Renfe, which will land you at the main train
station, a good 20-minute walk from the centre of town."
Can anyone tell me where the "Centro-Alameda station" is situated, I know
the centre of Malaga very well, I have not seen a station situated near the
Alameda.
I have a map of central Malaga, there seems to be only one station marked
and that is the main RENFE one on the west side of the Rio Guadalmedina,
approx half way between El Corte Ingles and the sea. However, it does show a
branch line continuing east fom Renfe station towards the Puerto and seems
to end up inside the Puerto gates opposite Plaza Marina. Is this the
location of the mysterious Centro Alameda station?

There are 55 Pensions/Hostals listed, some are right in the centre.
I've only stayed in the one i.e Hostal Victoria it's right in the centre and
I can recommend it, however you will have to book as it's very popular.

No, as you can see on eg. the map at URL:
http://www.ac.uma.es/mapas/publicoS.html
the terminus (Estación Málaga-Alameda) of the railway from Fuengirola via
Malaga airport is situated at the end of the C. Cuartales on the western
bank of the Rio Guadalmedina (but there appears to be access to it from the
other bank).

Ahh yes, thanks for that, just behind the main Post Office. It's not marked
on my map (Plano Callejero 1: 10,000) and I never found it in my wanderings,
I wonder if it's underground from the RENFE station? Last time I was in
Malaga (March 2005) there was some speculation in the local free paper about
extending the railway to the Plaza Marina. Hope to be there again in June,
lovely City comparatively unspoilt as yet.
Cheers & Thanks

Yes, the whole local line between the main line (RENFE) station and the
terminus is underground. And that's one reason why it doesn't (yet) go all
the way to the Alameda. But IIRC there used to be a way of getting at least
freight traffic to the harbourside by rail, and maybe you can still see some
of it.

As a PS to my previous message, you may be interested to know that there is
a project to build a metro at Málaga; see
http://www.metrodemalaga.info/Imag/mapaLinea1y2.jpg for an aerial photo
showing the routes of the two lines branching off a common trunk beneath the
Alameda...
