Train from London Euston to Bangor, walk 100 yards from the station
and catch a bus to Caernarvon. It will take around 5 hours each way.

If you can spare two days, the drive is comparatively easy, and beautiful.
Head for South Wales and wind your way up.

Train from London to Bangor (probably involving a change of trains at
Crewe, there's only about 4 direct trains a day at 0900, 1548, 1655, and
1935 from London Euston, journey time about 3h20m).
See http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/planmyjourney
In Bangor you may need to walk a few minutes to the main bus station by
the town clock (downhill from the railway station), but many services
call at the bus stops by the railway station - e.g. bus route 1 (Bangor
- Caernarfon - Pwllheli - Blaenau Ffestiniog) calls at bus stop H
outside the railway station at 0632, 0702, 0757, 0922, 1022, 1107, 1222,
1307, 1422, 1522, 1607, 1712 etc Monday to Saturday. Bus route 5
(Llandudno - Bangor - Caernarfon) calls at bus stop H at 7 and 37
minutes past each hour from 0937 to 1837 Mon-Sat (different frequency
earlier, and one bus later!). Journey time about 30 minutes, either
route.
See http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwy_doc.asp?cat=2567&doc=8298 for Gwynedd
County Council's bus timetables (pdf files).
http://www.traveline-cymru.org.uk/ for public transport information (not
a terribly helpful user interface, particularly if you don't know local
place names or bus route numbers!).
