Just in case anyone is planning to do the above soon:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2800073.stm
The M25 is closed (and has been since 2:30am Wednesday) in the Gatwick to
Heathrow direction.
Reading between the lines and from local radio reports - It wouldn't
surprise me if it stayed shut for a few days and expect some further
disruption when repair work starts.
The best alternative is probably the Train to Victoria then Tube, coach, or
taxi depending on your baggage size, personal fitness, and the size of your
wallet.
LHR-LGW route is open - but expect some delays.
I assume that the coaches are running along diverted routes and taking ages.
www.speedlink.co.uk isn't working for me at the moment - I guess it's pretty
busy.

You may well be right, when I passed it at 08:00 this am, the damage
looked really bad, it appears a lorry hit an overhead bridge, our
vehicles are all detouring, but luckily he detour is only a short one,
but it does involve going along some single lane carriage ways, and in
the rush hour that's going to add about an hour to the journey time,
and probably double that for coaches.
