The subject is in the news because of a 11 yr old kid shot in a gang war
at Courneuve in the outskirts of Paris. A 9 mm pistol was used.
Black market weapons are mostly coming in from form Yugoslavia, most of
them military weapons and have been employed in knocking over
armored trucks
What is for sale in Paris?
1) plastic explosives, at 3000 euros/kilo. These are used in armored truck
attacks.
2) Kalachinkovs at 800 to 1200 euros each.
3) Machine pistols (Scorpio) at 1500-2000 euros
4) anti-tank rocket launchers, at 2000 euros
5) Beretta semi-automatics at 3000 euros
What the authorities are worred about are the explosives since these could
be used by terrorists. In the terrorist attacks of 1995, no military
explosives were used. It has been 10 years since we have had such
an attack. Let us hope that continues.

Another stupid post
Your fellow americans already think they're in some third world country when
in France and you just help them think that.

I thought that Earl was trying to get a wide group of Americans to feel
comfortable in France. They apparently can easily pick up something to
make them feel more comfortable in isolated areas.

One thing France does not have is "gun shows".
Even getting a gun for criminal purposes by the voyous of the banlieue is
not that easy. A Beretta is a lot more expensive than a machine gun.
I personally would not know how to get hold of a weapon. I suppose I could
ask my contacts in prison when we visit and the subject has never arisen.
I don't know any French person who possess a gun! Nor are there than many
hold up in Paris.
I would not want to be, on the other hand, a driver of an armored car in
France. Few tourists will find themselves in one so don't worry.
