Re: Is Le Marche the Next Tuscany?
Le Marche is a great region. It's on the adriatic side of Italy, lying
between the more "touristic" Emilia-romagna (Rimini & Riccione) and the more
"informal" Abbruzzi.
It offers a lot. Beautifull seaside, astonishing mountains and forests, calm
villages, big cities where you can take ferries to east mediterrenean
countries (yugoslavia, greece, macedonia, albania can be reached from the
city of Ancona...)
Here you can have a look at a trip to Ascoli Piceno... Also called Ascoli.
It's a nice historical city famous for its medieval fair (The Quintana held
in july) but also for its "olive ascolane" (green olives stuffed with meat
and deep fried, simply delicious!) Thats for us gluttons!

more info on the city can be found on the official site of the city
http://www.comune.ascoli-piceno.it
Here you can have a look at a trip to the city of Fabriano, home of the
famous paper named after the city (Carta Fabriano) and home of the famous
painter Gentile da Fabriano. There's the nice little paper museum... great
for kids but interesting for adults too.

There are also the famous "grotte di Frasassi", maybe the most beautifull
natural caves in Italy. "A must see" if passing near Fabriano. Visits are
organised in english and french too.

Also don't forget tha LeMarche is the biggest shoes making district in
Italy. You can easily find really nice trendy shoes for small prices in any
shoe industry along the road... just stop and choose in their show room...
(of course this is for the ladies... :))
Last but not least here's the official cultural site of the Region
http://www.cultura.marche.it/
here you can find all info on museum, expo and other cultural events...
Enjoy the links!
bon voyage

The author could have written the article about many other regions even in
Tuscany itself.
Tourists tend to visit the same well known places and leave many zones
alone.
I would say that, apart from Florence, Tuscany's cities and towns are as
good as the others all over Italy.

My cousin lives in Fano. Beautiful. I love the Italian Adriatic coast. Le
Marches and south, especially Abruzzo.

and hot travel destinations come and go. in the 60's Acapulco was the place
to be and be seen by the 80's it wasn't even on the jet set map.
There was even a time when Spanish was spoken in Torremolinos and Malaga.
