Default Lauda Air MEL-VIE?

Has anyone used Lauda Air for a long-haul flight (economy class) such as
Melbourne to Vienna? Their airfares are very cheap, but are they good value
for money? What are your opinions?

Cheers,
GB

Some friends just returned on Lauda Air from Phuket. They were very happy with the excellent
service, but the seating might be a bit (they get about 60 more passengers into a
777-200 than Continental, both are two-class layout. You probably still get more than you pay
for.

FWIW, the squishy section is in the rearward of the two economy cabins.
The forward cabin is standard 9 abreast vs 10 abreast in the rear
section.

I used them recently for a trip to Europe from Sydney, and found their
service to be excellent... the flight attendants were very friendly
and obliging(though they seemed to disappear for a large portion of
the flight, so don't be afraid to use the call button :-)... and the
food was ok (not great, but not terrible either)...

Probably the thing I noticed the most, was the legroom was not very
generous. I didn't really have a huge problem with it, but some might.

The entertainment system they have on board (with screens at every
seat) is quite good and comprehensive, however, I myself, didn't
really use it much.

One more note, after speaking to other people on the flight, they
found the stop in Kuala Lumpur to be rather brief (it is, btw...).
Some people seemed to have a problem with this (Once again, I
didn't).. The scheduled stopover time is much more generous than what
you actually end up getting... both on the way there, and the way
back, we practically got off the plane, and then straight back on
again.

Anyway, to end it all off, I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again,
and may even seek out to fly them again the next time I travel. Their
partner airline, Austrian, provides excellent service as well for
connections to elsewhere in Europe.
