Or as I suggested, because of the embarrassment of Colonization.

Oh, "annointed one" (see your own comment) knows better than we
do?

I'm not embarrassed at UK having had colonies, all advanced
countries around at the time had them, we were just the best at
it. If the US had not been a colony at the time it would have
sought colonies of its own, perhaps that's your hang up?
