Not saying that every web app in the world is 100% accurate.
But I think even my nan could navigate better than this - using just road
signs.
Goto :
http://mappoint.msn.com/
Click on the directions tab.
Start and End - Set to "Place Name in Europe".
Enter Haugesund as the start point and Trondheim as the end point.
Click on the "Get Directions Button" and select the default places.
Then check out the route it gives ..... !

Sadly, your experience is far from unique. Here is a link to a story in
To-days "Observer" about a new 50 million pound UK Government Travel Website
which sends people off in the wrong direction and has them camping out over
night at bus stops.

My program is the first picture, Unfortunitly Norway is like many
eastern countries and there are no road maps available for these
countiries. Try any other ones like Map blast, ViaMichelin, or
Multimap. Any country east of Germany will not give you anything of
what you got. For that reason I have been going to ADAC to get my
maps.

Actually the direct route could very well be more scenic.

I asked a product manager at Microsoft who responded -

It is a hobby of mine to critique their data as a GIS professional /
digital map-maker myself.. I have lots of discussion in the "MP2Kmag
Guide to What's New in MapPoint 2004" about various data topics.
