Default info about Wuppertal

Hi!
I'm an italian PhD student and I will spend 3 month in Wuppertal
(April,May,June). I will be at Bergishe Universitat and I've
found a room in the University dormitory.
I would be glad if you can give me some informations and tips
about your city and in particular the weather: here in Italy
spring has come in these days and we have 16°C max and 2°C min .
So i'm wondering if I have to take with me winter dresses or more
light...
How do the weather is in this period in Wuppertal?
I would be very gratful for any info as I have never been to this
area and this is the first time I will stay so much time abroad.
Thank you

Francesca (Italy)

I've only ever travelled through Wuppertal - but I do know it has a
very unusual urban railway system - the suspended trains of the
"Schwebebahn".

The weather here in NRW will be at least 10 degrees colder
than you are used to.

Yesterday was 16C but that us very unusual for the time of year
that's what can be expected for May. Last week it was zero.
It is 10C today, which is probably more normal.

It also rains a lot (more than in London), it is raining at the moment.
Bring an umbrella.

Here's the climate table for Essen, which is pretty close to Wuppertal:

Weather is of course cooler and less predictable north of the Alps.
Spring starts later.

April: Excpect very variable weather, probably some rainy and some
sunny days. Frost and snow are still possible, but not very likely. Max
temperatures are rarely above 20 C.

May: No more frost. It can still be dull and rainy (maybe 10 C max), or
sunny with early summerly periods (25 C max)

June: Summerly weather sets in, max temp 25 - 30 C is possible. Rainy &
cool periods can still occur. Actually they always can. :)

Regards

It is built hanging over the river from my mother's 1912 postcard
collection..

It will certainly be cooler in April, but by June you can hope for good
weather. Wuppertal is a city strung together from several older towns
(the main ones are Barmen and Elberfeld) in the valley of the River
Wupper. The sides of the valley are quite steep. It has a large zoo and
a very good art gallery.

Must be one hell of a big collection if you can hang a railway from
it.
