Iceland in June?

I've seen some old posts saying that some parts of Iceland don't "open" until
July. Is this true? I'm thinking about going there in mid or late June, and
wonder if I will be able to see everything.

It is true for a few of the mountain roads, yes. Whether they lead to
destinations you are interested in, well..*shrug* I cannot say.

Depends upon where you want to go, some roads (very few) in the
interior usually do not open until july, but as we´ve had a very light
winter with most of the snow gone from the highlands, the roads shold
be open by mid june.
Most of the sights in Iceland are open for all, or for most of the
year, it is only the interior that is inaccessible during winter.

Last year two areas where still closed at the beginning of July.
The first around Hlodufell (road F337). The other was the area
north of Vatnajokull in the centre of Iceland (road F910). Both
are not the places where you will find many tourists.
If you want to know more about Icelandic road conditions then go to :

I don't know--I was there late May/early June and anything I was
interested in was open.

Well... at any rate, Iceland is a big country, and it will take more than
two weeks to "see everything". Being reasonable, I believe that two weeks is
about what you need to go around the island on route 1, if you don't want to
spend all your time driving.
One big advantage of going in June is that the prices of almost everything
(particularly car rental and hotels) are about 2/3 of the prices in July and
August...
I spent 3 weeks in 2000, and another 2 weeks in 2002, in June both times,
and I feel I am far from having seen everything. I have posted some pictures
on my site, at this address :
http://www.masse-fr.com/Islande_2/Is...sarlon1_A.html - and I have
included a few practical informations as well.
Have a nice trip to Iceland !
