Unfortunately. Takes all the fun out of it.

There's nothing fun about formal social events. They are scarcely
even tolerable above 50° F.

How would you know? You just said that the people who know
you don't invite you to social functions. It has been my
experience that not only are weddings here still formal,
they are becoming increasingly grandiose affairs, way out of
line for the financial status of the people hosting the
affairs.

What sort of fun are you talking about? I'm really curious...

I still observe them.

Basically it's a costume party when you get right down to it.
Women look REALLY good, men don't look too bad either. As
someone said once, even a monkey looks good in a Tux.
If you're going to all the fuss and bother of a wedding,
might as well go the whole nine yards. People tend to
treat each other better too as the formality goes up.
Well, okay, they tend to treat each other more formally.
Etiquette goes up, generally. There's always one moron
running around. Food can be better too. Facilities often
are better as well, if it is truly formal. One of the
last truly "Black Tie" affairs I attended was at a
huge mansion. Guests spent half their time just wandering
around looking at the place. It was like being in a
palace. Band was good too.

I am sure I'm not the only one who wonders why you continue to exist.
Your life sound decidedly miserable.

Why not just go to them, and gain some experience in interacting with
people?

Not to mention being dragged into a corner with one of the single
ladies for some boozily passionate muffin-related activity.

Women go absolutely nuts at weddings! God bless 'em!

Then he might not have enough time to eat a box of
cookies and wash it down with coke.

I recommend the movie the "Wedding Crashers" Hilarious. Crashing weddings
to meet amorous women.

Miserable is in the eye of the beholder, especially when you live under
a bridge...<g>

I don't like formal social occasions, and weddings are such an
artificial and contrived environment that they are useless for gaining
experience (even were I interested in doing that).
