Default Hotel Gellert in Budapest - are current renovations a problem?

We will be traveling to Budapest in a few weeks and would like to stay at the Gellert
but have been told they are doing renovations to the courtyard 7 days a week.

Have any of you stayed there this past year? If so, did the renovation work disturb
you? Is the hotel dealing with the disruption well?

Also, what is you opinion of the Gellert? Would you recommend something else? We will
be staying the entire second week of September.

Thanks,

Eric

You could try the Grand Hotel Panda which is well situated in Buda and comes with a fine reputation

Gellert was very much 'old school' - if that's what you want, great (no idea what
will be happen if it has 'renovations' going on). Personally, I always go for one of
the new hotels in town, but that's a taste thing. If you want bright shiny things,
latest technology etc etc, I'd try somewhere else, if you want a feeling of grandeur
from the good old days, you cant go wrong with the Gellert.

You may want to check if the renovations are going to turn in to restoration due to
the flood situation.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I do like the classy old-style hotels. But I also like the
high-tech look and feel, so if you have any particular recommendations for Budapest
I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Eric

Not very likely as Budapest is not flooded (except Romai Furdo, 100 or so houses)

Looked a bit iffy on the Grand Prix coverage this afternoon.

The Danube is high, and due to get higher apparently: http://uk.fc.yahoo.com/020817/80/d7mzv.html
