Default Here We Go Again

New Yorkers got the pleasant news that Al Queda has detailed
plans of some financial institutions here and elsewhere, although
there is no time frame in which these plans were made.

However, the intelligence is detailed enough to cause the city
to take measures similar to those that prevailed after 9/11.

Citicorp actually has two skyscraper centers -- one in Manhattan
and the other just across the Eaat River in Queens, about 2 miles
from where I live. A subway line runs below both Citicorp centers.

After reading all the news available yesterday, I found myself
feeling very, very tired. Deja vu. Expect much "jumpiness" for
the forseeable future. False alarms. The same sort of thing we
have gone through post 9/11 and then again during the anthrax scares.

I'm glad, though, the President Bush and his faithful will have an
opportunity to experience New York later in the month and join us in
our uneasiness. Will he continue to say the Iraq war has made America
safer? Of course he will. Do I feel safer? No. I'd be a fool to
do so. I have always held that Al Queda is our enemy and not Iraq.
Our resources now are split and strained.

I do think it was the thing to do to identify the possible targets.
This may deflect a planned attack. Not to say there may not be plan
B, C. or D or all of the above. But then, the targets really HAD
to be revealed for if suddently a host of heavily armed cops surrounded
the Citicorp Center, someone just might guess something was up. The
NYSE has been heavily protected since 9/11.

So I am welcoming all the Republican party faithful to New York City
so they can experience what it looks and feels like in a city that is a
specific Al Queda target. Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow .....

Dont worry - It'll all get remarkably quiet after November.

I, for one, accept the apology, and I thank you for having the good
grace to post it.

There are about 50 other people who also owe apologies to this group,
but I'm not holding my breath.

You spend your time fretting over, and counting, what you deem to be
misposts?

Yep, all those Saudi Wahhabi sect moslems being taught
intolerance of other religions, "it is the duty of a
muslim.......to be the enemy of the infidels", Christian and Jew
are infidels, Shi'ites are heretics. And so on. And they export
that thinking round the world. Some ally.

If you interpret it very broadly, it's still on topic: it could be of
concern to Europeans traveling to New York :-)

All the best,

Nils

No, intentional inflammatory posts by people like "Booby
Fischer", oh and possibly top postings, but its not really for me
to say, although I said it anyway.

You'll have to wait after it has been rush hour in the USA timezones,
I'm afraid.

You make a big mistake thinking all Americans blame Europe.
Some may be so foolish. I don't know them and wouldn't want
to know them.

I don't think they do, Rita. But from the point of view of this
newsgroups we get a lot of nutters in US who constantly post anti
Europe stuff. At first sight your post looked like one,
fortunately it wasn't. A breath of fresh air!

I'm sure Mike doesn't think all Americans (not even all citizens of the USA
- see other thread) blame Europe. What gave you that impression? I've never
seen a serious post from him that even hints at such a thing.

It seems the info may be 3 years old, so one has to be a little
suspicious.
