Default help suggesting some sort of route for an eu trip?

3 of us have tickets into Athens on July 15 or so, and out of London
in late October. We'll all have a 3 month unlimited Eurail pass, and
around 4000 Euro.

The only certainty of what we want to do is Oktoberfest, so we'll need
to be in Munich in late September.

Now...we really don't have much of an idea of where to go. Clearly,
we're on a budget.

Knock yourself out suggesting

You'll probably just be coralled with all the other loud, drunken
Australians. Why bother, when you can do that at home?

I could suggest you make a little effort to read first, and then post
slightly more specific questions.

But with the rail pass, and low budget, you'll probably be sleeping on
trains a lot, so you dont need an efficient route. Just zig-zag all
over europe as the mood takes you. It'll be fun.

Consider the weather (cold in the north by sept/oct),
and crowds - july/aug can be horribly crowded in the south.

OK! I suppose it'd be handy to let you know we're all 20-21.

France:
Whats worth seeing in Mediterreanean France? Is Nice worth a few days?
Marseille? Monaco?

How much time would we need to spend in Paris to see it well? Any tips
on cost cutting? I hear its expensive. Are there good Hostels in a
central area near the major train station? Is Bordeaux good?

Spain + Portugal:
Is San Sebastian good? Sevilla? Bilbao?
Would Barcelona-Madrid-Cadiz-Lisbon-Bilbao-San Sebastian be a good
route?

East:
Whats worth seeing in Hungary, apart from Budapest? Is there much of a
language barrier?
What would be a good plan for a week in the Czech Republic? Cesky
Krumlov and Prague, or check out some other stuff?

Seeings as you are Aussies interested in beer, fun, and saving cash, I would
say go via Eastern Europe. Beer is ridiculously cheap, it's much, much less
touristy.

Greece is ok, but the islands are very expensive, and crowded at that time
of year.

I would also highly recommend 3 weeks in Turkey to. Aussies and Turks get
along really well together coz they shot at each other a few years ago, and
right now it's really cheap. Every Australian raves about their trip to
Turkey.

Go up through Bulgaria (no visa) and Romania (visa req.). These are both
poor nations, but really cool anyway, esp Romania.

Hungary (another bloody visa) on the whole is not all that exciting apart
from the awesome Budapest and some nice bits along the Danube. Lake Balaton
is pretty overrated in my books.

Czech Republic is great (yeah, you still need visas), and you could easily
lose a week or two in Cesky Crumlov. Make the most of this, coz the prices
go up dramatically as you head west.

From there, Oktoberfest is a stones throw away. Then make your way up to
London via Paris.

The alternative would be to go the Mediteranean route, which will require
fewer visas, but are much more expensive/touristy/crowded. Either way, if
you are going as a group of three, you will all probably hate each others
guts by the end of it no matter which way you go.

Hi,

frankly, you'll need to do more research on your own. Europe is quite a
big place, and densely populated (many cities!) and asking "what's worth
seeing in Europe?" is a bit like asking "what's worth seeing in
Australia/Canada/USA". And it won't get you a lot of sensible answers
because people just can't write pages and pages.

    > France:
    > Whats worth seeing in Mediterreanean France? Is Nice worth a few days?
    > Marseille? Monaco?

All of them. Personally, I dislike Monaco - snobby, and not that nice to
look at. In *my* opinion.

My favourite place in Europe is Italy - so if anything, I'd recommend
that. Roma, Firenze, Cinque Terre, Sicily (great!!!)...

    > How much time would we need to spend in Paris to see it well? Any tips

Paris: spend as much time there as you like, it won't bore you. Don't
miss out on Sacre Coeur.

Cost cutting: I did this in 2000, so no idea if prices are still the
same. But we found a very nice 3-star motel at the peripherie close to
Porte d'Orleans, 10 mins walk to the metro and very reasonably priced at
about 25 EUR per person/night.

There ought to be many hostels, but I've never checked on them.

All of them. And more. Valencia. Barcelona. Madrid. You name it.

As good as any, I suppose. Really depends what else you want to see, what
you're after, landscape/nature/cities etc.

Maybe spend some days at Balaton lake? Quite pleasant.

Sounds ok. Karlovy Vary, maybe?
