I will be in Sweden the last week in September and would like to
find a moderate priced hotel, or B&B, near Chalmers University.
Your recommendation would be appreciated.
Thanks, --len

I sent off a note to my contact in Trollhättan asking for help on this
one. I'll let you know what she says.

Anyone come up with anything for this? I'm heading off in September and
could use some cheap digs in gothenburg...

Here are three relatively cheap options I have considered. I have reserved
one of them. I'm not sure how close they are to Chalmers, but it doesn't
look like places are that far apart in the city centre.

You could also look at hostels, but the cost savings is not that great in
Sweden for short stays, unless you bring your own linens and do some
cleaning chores yourself (rather than pay the cleaning fee).

Let me amend my last posts. If there are two or more of you traveling
together, hostels in Sweden often do not save that much money. If you are
traveling alone, a dorm bed in a hostel is almost always the cheapest way by
far (other than camping for free).

My contact in Trollhattan says:
-------------------
This is what I found - not exactly next-door to Chalmers, but still
within reasonable reach. They are youth hostels, some might be called
B&B. You don?t get private rooms, except for an extra fee.
Slottsskogen, Vasagatan 21 [email protected]

Stigbergsliden, Stigbergsliden 10 [email protected]
Goteborgs vandrarhem, Molndalsvagen 23 [email protected]
Vandrarhem Linne, Vegagatan 22 www.vandrarhemmet-linne.com
Grethes Turistrum, Humlegardsgatan 10 www.grethes.com
--------------
Her son went to Chalmers, so she may be considered to be familiar with
the area, but I don't think any of these are 'first person'
recommendations. Good luck

My alternate contact in T'hatan says:
--------------------------
Hotell Lillton is a sweet little hotel smack in the middle of town,
but in a very quiet area. The area is called the "English Row" due to
the architecture. http://www.hotellilton.com/main_en.php
Marias Pensionat is even more centrally located.
http://www.mariaspensionat.nu/indexen.htm
Of course, I haven't stayed at any of these myself, but I'm sure they
are all good. A minor warning though, hostels can of course get a bit
roudy depending on the current clientèle.
