We have been to Versailles & I've always wanted to visit Giverny, but
am worried if the weather isn't great, it won't be that great of a
trip. Any input on this or other suggestions - Chartes perhaps?
Looking for a place that also has indoors sight-seeing - a charming &
interesting town a plus!

Im planning something similar in December/January. Maybe you would make a
post about your experience after you return?

Giverny is closed from November to April...

Chartres is nice but can be windy, up there on the hill in the winter.

How about Paris?

Thanks all - I will post when I return - will just wait & see whatthe
weather is like - we've spent a lot of time in Paris on many trips &
just thought it would be nice to take a day-trip.

Why not take the TGV to Lyon? Quite a nice old city.
Or even Beaune or Dijon?

Actually, Chartes would be a great choice. Fountainbleu is another option.

Chartre is a great day trip from Paris. [I wouldn't do Giverny in the
winter] the Loire is another possibility although it works better as a
two day. Rheims is also a good one.

we did this instead of Senlis because of Rick Steve's pushing it -- but
were rather disappointed. and watch carefully on hours -- as things
closed down for along lunch about the time we wanted to tour on our way
into Paris. the grounds are lovely -- but not really a winter
destination and I thought the museums were disappointing. the horse
barns which are supposed to be interesting require a completely
different fee/ticket -- and the tickets were all very expensive for what
was offered.

The Loire is the wettest place in France. Winter is the wettest time
of the year in Loire.
