If you want to commute stay in padova and go to venezia every day by train..

In any case..
do not forget Le ville venete of the Riviera del brenta..

there is a small river called BRENTA between Venezia and Padova..

there are a lot of vIllas where the rich families of the venetian upper
class used to spend their week ends and their vacations.
there was a small boat called Burchiello taking people from venezia to their
villas

there is a boat now ( i do not know about the winter season) that takes
tourists on this river and stops at the most important villas.

most of them are due to the architect Andrea Palladio..

soooo.. if you have time
dedicate one day to the visit of at leat 4 or 5 of these villas..

besides.. there is a small town called MAROSTICA not far from Venezia

where they play LIVE CHESS.. in the main square of the old town.
