We are landing in Glascow but heading to Edinburgh the same day. What is the best way
to get there. If anyone has ever taken a taxi approx. how much did it cost? Any help
would be good.
Thanks

Fastest is a taxi but it will cost - maybe GBP60+ on a meter and about an hour depending on traffic. Could be worth negotiating before you get in. Cheapest would probably be a bus into Glasgow centre then a train or bus to Edinburgh, allow maybe GBP20. You could even find a direct bus/ coach from airport straight to Edinburgh, worth a dig.

If you cannot get a coach directly from the airport, Take a taxi to Queen Street
Station Glasgow which will cost you about £10.oo. The direct train to Edinburgh
leaves every 30 minutes and takes 50 minutes to Edinburgh Waverley Station which is
right in the centre of Edinburgh. It is a beautiful city with wonderful old pubs,
numerous restaurants and entertainment. If you are going in august get a programme
for the Festival and the Fringe and you will find lots of interesting shows but you
have to book the good ones early.
Look at www.edfringe.com and www.go-edinburgh.co.uk

Glasgow Airport is maybe 20 miles from Glasgow centre, but I believe frequent buses
run from airport to city centre (but CHECK THIS). Once in Glasgow, Edinburgh is less
than an hour by train (very frequent service). Railway stations in both Glasgow and
Edinburgh are bang in the middle of the cities. A taxi would cost you an arm and a
leg, even just airport to centre, let alone all the way to Edinburgh.

Every 30 minutes at the moment - Scotrail's timetable still hasn't recovered from
their recent dispute with the drivers.

To do a fair comparison you would have to quantify how many people are travelling and
also your final destination in Edinburgh.
If the answer was say 4 and you ended up with 4x airport bus + 4x train + taxi to
final destination this could be a tidy sum in total.
It might still be worth costing a taxi or perhaps cheaper still a private hire car.

You may find this site useful but please note the 'airport trains' do not go directly
to the terminal but to Paisley Station with a bus link to the terminal.

at four people, it would have to be worth checking out a one way car rental and
driving, wouldn't it?

But you'd probably not have to share with somebody who calls himself "sweaty sock",
though. Every cloud...

No there isn't, there is no train station at Glasgow Airport. You can get a bus to
Paisley Gilmour St and then a train, but it is much easier and faster to get the
direct bus to Glasgow city centre (about 3.50 GBP IIRC) The problem here is that the
bus goes to Buchanan St bus station, wheres trains to Edinburgh leave from Queen St
rail station. It is not far, but if you have a lot of luggage and don't know where
you're going it could be tricky. So I would try to find a direct coach to Edinburgh
from Glasgow Airport.

There isn't a direct Edinburgh Glasgow bus anymore. I used to take it, and was
rather annoyed to find it discontinued - BUT - the bus from the airport to Buchanan
Street WILL stop at Queen Street Station - just ask the driver to let you know when
he gets there.

IIRC it will stop just round the corner from Central Station, but not at Queen St. Of
course you could take a taxi to Queen St from Central Station, it is really not far
-- five minutes' walk, if you know the way.
