The Union of German Train Drivers has voted with an overwhelming
majority to begin strike action in support of their pay demand of up to
30%. German train drivers are among the lowest paid in western Europe.
The first wave of strikes is expected Thursday, initially with a
stoppage of freight trains, with action on passenger trains likely
later. Strike action will be announced 24 hours in advance. Info is
available on the www.bahn.de page, although the English language page is
not showing any info - yet. There is also an international hotline -
