Default Geneva in November

Hello,

I am thinking of stopping in Geneva on my way from Paris to Venice in late November. I see that it is *VERY* expensive there- the cheapest hotels I can find start around $150 plus. Can anyone tell me if there are less expensive hotels in Geneva? Perhaps I am not seeing them on Expedia or Travelocity. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel at a reasonable price?

Thanks,
Kim

I find this little hotel pleasant, conveniently located and, above all, cheap
(single room without bath but with Continental breakfast was CHF 62 in January
2000). The rooms on the first floor are best, I think, as only a few rooms
share the toilet and shower. I stay in single Room 10:

Hôtel Saint-Gervais
20, rue des Corps-Saints
1201 Genève (Gare), Switzerland

as the address indicates, the hotel is quite close to the central train
station, perhaps 400 meters. Turn right at the exit to the train station,
cross the street, turn right again (now going parallel to the front of the
train station). Keep going straight ahead and you eventually come to the hotel
(the street you have been on turns left, but rue des Corps-Saints is straight
ahead).

If you do not cross the street in front of the train station, you find that the
road branches and you are on the upper right of a letter K instead of the upper
left.

You could try www.minotel.com but getting out of
the city is a good
bet.

I stayed at the HOTEL SUISSE right next to the train station at 120 CHF
(approx 80 USD) per night including (small) continental breakfast. email -
[email protected] tel: +41 22 732 66 30
Smallish room but own bathroom (the bathroom was nice and bigger than the
bedroom)
I would describe the hotel as small, convienient and cheap rather then nice,
but I would be happy to stay there again.

In Geneva, I used to recommend a little hotel with character called
Hotel de la Cloche. I did not stay there but thanks to my uncle who has
his office in that same street, I know its exact location: very central
in a side street of the lake promenade. A Czech guy who asked the same
question here a long time ago gave me feedback afterwards that he liked
it very much. It might not be up to the standard of a 3 star, but has
character and should not cost more than 120 per night.

The hotel's website is
http://www.smpage.ch/cloche/.

It was ranked as a favourite by Travelocity last year, and I was going
to suggest you to have a look at
http://dest.travelocity.com/DestGuides/0,1840,TRAVELOCITY%7C2422%7C3%7C-
1%7C217363,00.html
.
But strangely it is not on the page anymore. They quoted a price of
SFr. 120 for a double:

Have a nice trip!

It's not a hotel, but I would like to recommend the Studio House
Acacias. They rent studio apartments - so you have a small refrigerator
and a stove - for a quite reasonable price, starting at 85 Swiss Francs
per night (about $60 US.) They're located directly on a major bus route,
about 15 minutes ride from the train station downtown, and within easy
walking distance of both the old town and the major shopping strip. They
are also right next to a grocery store, so supplies are easy to get. The
URL is http://www.studiohouse.-
