Default French question???????

I just returned from Paris, where I stayed for 11 days. I was treated
very well (as usual) so forget the bullshit some posters are spewing.
My question is this, why are so many French people dark skinned? I mean
excluding Negroes, Asians, Indians, and others, many French are dark with
brown eyes and black hair. Where does that come from?

Most French are at least somewhat Mediterranean.

Many years ago I rode the train from Paris to Rouen and back for a day trip.
It was long enough ago that it was a compartment train. On the trip back to
Paris, all 6 of us in my compartment were fair-haired and blue-eyed. Those
Norse-men sure brought strong genes with them to Normandy a thousand years
ago!!!

You'll notice that many Sicilians are blue-eyed - same Norse-men genes from
their raiding parties a thousand years ago.

France spans an area which varies from the flat lands of the north to
the Mediterranean south - so like Spain, Italy, Greece (etc) is has
people with Mediterranean features.

The above is quite true, but one has to add millions of Spaniards and
Portuguese who emigrated to France in the days of the Common market.

I also note that the original post says nothing of beurs (Frenchmen of
North African extraction) who are said to number 5,000,000.

My theory:

Putting aside non-European influences, the modern notion of France as a
unified nation which stretches from the Channel to the Mediterraneean
masks the fact that it is an agglommeration of a wide spread of native
peoples, and the northern strains -- blonder and bluer-eyed --
represent a much smaller percentage of the mix than the southern
strains (dark hair/brown-eyed).

French are Latins, maybe the less of the latin nations, but they are latins,
with some influentions of other peoples (every body has, I think), but they
are Latins.

As well ask "Why are so many Scandinavians blonde?" - basically, the
Teutonic peoples were blonde, the Latin ones brunette. However, that's
an oversimplification, because you have blonde French and Italians and
even Greeks, as well as brunette Swedes and Norwegians. (It all comes
down to heredity, and the complexion, etc. of one's ancestors.) BTW,
not all Irish have red hair and green eyes, either!

The original post appeared to exclude non-European ethnic origins.

And many Norwegians have dark hair and eyes. Invading Sicilians, perhaps?
