Everything military has been snipped.

Look at Cap La Hague nuclear reprocessing site with Geoportail and
Google Earth.

Well, that would not surprise me. France doesn't have a free press.
And the military still wields undue and surprising influence.

Even then they have to be repaired with a tyre patching kit...

[Bonus question: What do Jacqueline and the Grand Canyon have in
common...???]

BTW Leger des Heils own a whole square block in my Chicago
neighborhood, it directly abuts the heavily homosexual area known as
"Boystown". Not only does their property encompass a training centre,
but their main office building is a splendid old mansion (built by some
turn - of - the - 20th century industrialist), it makes all the foofy
queens walking by quite envious.

It's kind of an odd juxtaposition...

It came 30th in last years Reporters sans Frontieres ranking of nations by
press freedom - not perfect, but ahead of Australia, the U.S. and Japan,
for example.

Some of the roof area on the White House has been retouched on Google
Maps. It's not a very good job.

I just tried Geoportail; the image quality is almost unusably poor,
and looks like a sick joke compared to Google Maps. And this is for
the center of Paris! The site is also designed more poorly and the
response time is worse. If they can't do it right, why don't they
just give up?

Try with Argenton-sur-Creuse, or Pont-l'Evêque (in the Calvados dept)
...

You know, not every French lives in Paris. Géoportail was designed to
have an equal image quality throughout France, to the Louvre pyramid to
the smallest villages in the Morvan. Of course, when you compare big
cities, Google Earth wins by far.

And the images they use are not satellite ones, and they are true
color.

Ah, so Géoportail has a secret database of ultra-high-resolution
images, and deliberately blurs them so that every square metre of
France looks like it was last photographed in 1952?

So they _were_ photographed in 1952!

And I saw the very crude masking of some seaside facility in Le Havre.
I can't believe people are still doing that. Perhaps France is still
doing aerial photography from biplanes, but the bad guys have
satellites now, and the best satellites now can read your wristwatch
from altitude.

Heh. Reminds me of those photography restrictions that used to exist
when flying in commercial passenger craft above East Bloc
countries...yeah, that hazy pic I took on that flight between Prague
and East Berlin SURE was going to mark me as a NATO spy!

Somebody with a home made garden shed in Alpes Maritime says he can
see every detail of his handcrafted wood work. With Google Earth you
can't even see the town other than as a blur.

It doesn't work for many who use antivirus software, without first
disabling things that the user wants to keep enabled.

www.geoportail.fr doesn't work for me today. Maybe I have been struck
off for criticising French technology.

Not every user wants to change their settings of Norton Anti Virus or

Did you fall out of bed early or did you wet it again?

What you see in your mirror is not necessarily what everybody sees.

Can you explain how the free press "have been" hindered by the military
_specifically in France_ ? In your opinion, when was the press actually
free and when did the military begin to interfere ?
