I tend to find a thick head interferes with comprehension more.

It is a permanent fixture that you can do nothing about. There is not
a frog on earth that has successfully removed their distinct accent.

It's pleasant sounding, but for people that don't like the French,
they will find it repugnant.

Actually, I am under the impression that a huge percentage of these people
that have French as their native language *intentionally* make their accents
more pronounced. They think their language is so cool and there was a time
in this country, when having that French accent made you more popular with
the opposite sex. But maybe that was a time that has come and gone and
nowadays, it may no longer hold true due to the tension between French and
Americans.

No, they just don't care about pronouncing foreign words properly.

I don't believe that is generally true.

Many cannot pronounce certain foreign words easily, and don't try very
hard. Much as I do with French.

Some do, most don't.

A more common situation is that French people consider their language
part of their identity, and so they refuse to abandon their accent
("linguistic ego"). Quite a few French speakers have this problem.

That tension is very temporary, and it's also one-way.

Women with French accents sound terrific and sexy. Men with French
accents sound like putzes.

I remember the time I rented a place in Paris from a delightful young
woman. I just loved the way she explained how the taps worked in the
bathtub- it was 7th heaven just listening to her voice.

Conversely, overhearing a heavily tatooed french truckdriver at a
truckstop was another kind of experience.

From my POV it's the other way round. :))

That is something both French & English people share. When speaking
Spanish, at least.

English accent is less distinct, though.
