Default Ferry from Sweden to France?

Does anyone know if there's a boat that would take me from Sweden (any port) to
France (any port)?

I'd rather do that than travel through Germany if I can.

Years ago I caught an overnight ferry from Amsterdam to Göteborg. The Thomas Cook
Timetable indicates this is still possible, but with a change in Newcastle. This
won't get you from Sweden to France, but it will bypass Germany. Amsterdam to France
by rail or road is a snap.

There isn't as far as I know, and it's kinda hard to avoid Germany, but there are
boats leaving for Germany from both Norway and Denmark, probably Sweden too. There is
one huge detour if you're not on a tight budget though, take a train to western
Norway (Bergen), there's a boat leaving for England (Newcastle) two or three times a
week, then travel from Newcastle to London and either get on the Eurostar train or
use a boat service to cross the channel.

Good Luck.

Hi

I am not sure the Sweden - Amsterdam ferry is still running - it wasn't last time I tried to book it.

Your options are -

Sweden (or Norway) to North of England, then a long drive to Dover

Sweden to Denmark, then Denmark to Harwich and a medium drive to Dover

The boats take around 24 hrs, but save a hotel

I used to take the ferry Gothenburg - Frederikshaven, then drive Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium to France. It's not too bad if you leave Germany at Osnabruck. Hamburg is the only busy part.
This takes 10 hrs to the French border as a best time.

If you can face Germany, a more comfortable route is Gothenburg - Kiel overnight, then drive as above

It is also possible to use Rodby Puttgarten boat.

Try freight ships.

Not really possible, without making the journey extremly long.. Go to Denmark,
Esbjerg-Harwich and then on to France.

Better and cheaper to take the train.

There are also ferries from both Gothenburg to Newcastle (I assume its still running)
and Esbjerg (Denmark) to Harwich, both of which would be a shorter, though still
significant, detour.

Rather interesting that the OP's message had a .de ID though....

Or Sweden>Ferry to Poland as there are direct ferries to Poland from Ystad,Karlskrona
and Nynäshamn (South Stockholm) to Swinoujscie,Gdynia and Gdansk respectively. The
question sounds strange but I can't see any possibility to travel the western route
without a detour over Newcastle or Harwich as the Gothenburg-Amsterdam ferry route
ceased some y ago.

Hey I was about to pose the question if anyone could suggest a bicycle route from
Amsterdam to Barcelona without going through France..

Isn't it possible, that the original question was a bit misunderstandable?

Shouldn't it read "How to get from Sweden to France by car without a long drive
(through Germany)?

Because, if the target was just "avoiding Germany", the easy answer is "take
a flight".
