Default Experience with Ryan Air?

Does anyone have any experience with Ryan Air? I recently purchased tickets on his
airline (flying out of Hahn near Frankfurt). Any info is appreciated!

Thanks! Heather M.

£49 return flight from London/Stanstead to Nimes, southern France last year. Silly
money, and all went without a hitch.

If everything goes fine Ryanair are ok. They pack you in like sardines, fly to/from
inconvenient airports and provide no free food. They are cheap if you book in
advance. But if anything goes wrong such as losing baggage, missing connections or if
the last flight of the day is cancelled etc they will not compensate you in any way,
put you up in hotel, or pay for you to transfer to a different flight etc. If you
wish to contact their customer service department then it is impossible because they
only employ 4 people (and I am being serious).

You get what you pay for.

I actually am the only person I know who got good service from them (once) Stansted
to Knock - Knock was fog bound and we diverted to Dublin. They then laid on 2 coaches
(free) and drove everyone the 4 hours up to Knock. And had staff on hand at Knock
arranging taxis (customer pays) for those who wanted them.

I've used them about 4 times and no other problems, but I've heard lots of stories
from others that they aren't much help if things go wrong.

If you're an American and have flown Southwest you will find Ryanair is even more
cheapskate.

In May we flew Ryanair from Stansted to "Stockholm", which was actually an
airport some distance south of Stockholm. I haven't boarded a jet aircraft by
crossing the tarmac and walking up those rolling stairs in ages, but we did at
both ends of the flight.

Hahn is apparently quite a distance from Frankfort, but I don't know what the
facilities are like. I hope you have solved the question of how to get to
Hahn airport.

At "Stockhom" Ryanair was the only airline using what was really a small local
airport, the terminal being basically a large Butler building (if you are familiar
with those), with rather primitive facilities. The rush for the long ride on a
shuttle into Stockholm was a bit chaotic.

We have flown Ryan Air twice, (including £9 to Sardinia!) and have had no problems.
The only thing I would suggest is taking any snacks/drinks you might want with you,
to take best advantage of the cheap prices. Hope it all goes well, David.

For those who might not know, be advised that there was an alleged apparition of the
Virgin Mary in Knock, and that it is a pilgrimage destination.

Miracles might be expected.

I've used them the maybe a dozen times - no problems, but then I knew where the
aeroport I was flying to was (check it carefully). Perfectly safe, dirt cheap but
give me Easyjet anytime, thank you very much.

We flew with Ryanair from Bournemouth to Dublin; it was fine -- on time, cheap,
and efficient. As one would expect, though, it was a basic operation and level
of service.

The main rules-of-thumb that I'd put forward for using any no-frills airline are:

a) once you've booked the ticket you should assume that if you can't take the flight
-- for any reason at all -- the fare will not be refunded. The profit margins on
these operations are so wafer thin that the paperwork involved in refunding your
fare will probably cost the profit on another 4 tickets.

(b) don't expect any frills at all from a no-frills operation -- it amazes me that
people will whine about service and staffing levels when they've paid something
like £12 for an hour-long flight.

(c) spend the money that you've saved on a nice treat for yourself.

Let me get this straight. You were getting 7GBP flights to Sardinia and you still
bring your own snacks. For that price, I'd be willing to begrudge them a few pounds
for their snacks. We wouldn't want all these cheap airlines to go bankrupt.

Flown lots of places, never any problems of any variety.

You can change any flight with Ryanair for 15UKP up to 3 hours before the flight +
cost of fare change, the cost of fare change may be significant of course if you're
on a 9UKP flight or whatever.

Indeed!

    >(c) spend the money that you've saved on a nice treat for yourself.

Like another flight the next week...

Jim.

Be Fair - Arlanda (the main airport) is quite a long way North of Stockholm.

I guess you haven't flown much with BA then

but we did at both ends of the flight.

You should try their airport at Venice. Tiny and not enough coach space for all the
passengers - some people had to stand for about 45 minutes for the ride to Venice -
they weren't very happy.

Wasn't there some talk a few years ago of enlarging an existing airport that is a lot
closer to Stockholm ? I can't remember the name of it.
