Experience with Europecar in the UK?

Default Experience with Europecar in the UK?

Further to my questions on AutoEurope (which I got some very helpful
response - thanks!) I have found out more about what the travel agent
is offering me:
It's a car from Europecar through AutoEurope. The car is a Opal Vectra
automatic - which is my choice from what's available.

Does anyone have any experience with Europecar and their service
standards?

Also, since I am obviously new to the AutoEurope system - do I go
directly to the Europecar counter in Manchester Airport (where I will
be arriving) to get the car? Or are there a AutoEurope counter etc?

My bottom line concern is the service and the age of the car. The fact
that it is $1,000 cheaper than Avis is a bonus, but I don't want to
have an old car with a lot of bad customer service in return for the
saving.

Thanks for any advice or info!

Europcar www.europcar.co.uk is a well-respected, French-operated car
rental firm operating 170 countries worldwide including the US.
http://car-rental.europcar.com/

It is highly unlikely that the car will be more than a year old.

The instructions on how to collect your car will be clearly stated on your
Autoeurope voucher, which you simply hand in at the Europcar desk on
arrival
http://www.europcar.co.uk/rental-sta...port-car-hire/ ,
and on your confirmation e-mail.

Enjoy your trip.

That is really old for a hire car. Most Hertz and Avis cars are under six
months. :-)

I was just arse-covering. Most cars I've had from Europcar have been
brand-new.

I rented from them once in France. Good service, and the car was nearly new,
well up to Avis/Hertz standard.

No, there is no AutoEurope counter. You go to the Europecar counter. And you
drop it off at a Europecar office. All the cars I've rented via a broker
were indistinguishable from those rented directly. AutoEurope provides very
good service.

The problem I see is driving after a long (overnight?) flight from Canada,
jetlagged, on the wrong side of the road. Hope you're not driving far.

They say their fleet has an average age of 6-months. I found
their pre-paid rate at Frankfurt-Main to be slightly less than the
discounted Budget rate. However, I'm sticking with Budget,
'cuz its not pre-paid.

Having lived near one of their outlets for a few years, I prefer
to think of them as antisocial shits with a policy of sailing as
close to legality as will let them stay out of jail. It was sheer
luck they didn't get any children from the local school run over.

Thanks for all the insights ... Can I say it seems ok so far to go
with Europecar through AutoEurope?
This is presuming that I won't notice any difference in car and
service quality from Avis that I am used to.
I guess for a $1000, it may be worth the switch this time?
