I don't know what it's like elsewhere, but in the US, if
someone steals your credit card and makes purchases with it,
you can be responsible for up to $50 (if the charges are
made before you report it stolen). Practically speaking,
I've heard that most credit card companies will not ask you
for the $50, but that's the law just the same.
