Europe in July
Hello all! I've never traveled to Europe, but have an opportunity to make
up for lost time this year.
I'm planning to do a cycling tour in Italy and France in the Fall. Would
like to hear suggestions on alternate destinations that are less hot and/or
crowded in July. British Isles? Germany? Prague?

cycling is not safe in this countries, because the cars just dont care on
the bikers. They kill groups of bikers
every year and are not hard punished.
Go in a country where bikers are more safe
I recommend Denmark or Netherlands

Many of the popular tourist places are very crowded in July and August all
over Europe. The summer in Scandinavia is very beautiful and less hot, and
it is never too crowded there.

I wouldn't recommend the Netherlands. Sure, it caters extremely well for

I wouldn't recommend the Netherlands. Sure, it caters extremely well for

The British Isles would certainly be cooler, especially if you can make it up
to Scotland. I once visited Paris and Germany in June and it was 90 degrees one
day in both places, so there's no guarantee that they'll always have cooler
weather there.

The British Isles would certainly be cooler, especially if you can make it up

Hello,
We often spend time in the summer in the Swiss Alps. The weather is usually
quite nice, but of course it can vary. We stay in the mountains near Sion.
The scenery is spectacular!
I've also visited Northern Ireland in July. The weather was wonderful, just
warm enough to be comfortable, sometimes needing a light jacket. I was told
that the weather was exceptionally nice though, so it may not always be like
that in July. :-)

I agree with most of the OPs. Germany can be quite hot from June-August.
Not sure about Czech Republic, but Germany partially has a continental
climate already, and CZ definitely even more so. So I guess temperatures
are at least equal, maybe hotter in CZ.
If you want scenery and cooler weather, choose the Alps. You could even do
a tour of Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria and never leave the Alps.
Maybe even a side trip to Lago di Como - beautiful, serene (if it wasn't
for the tourists). In short, the right spot to relax after a few wearing
days on the bike. If you're a real biker, you can also throw in a side-trip
to the Mediterranean coast, e.g. Liguria, which is spectacular. It goes
without saying that it'll be hot, though. The comment about Italian and
French drivers being reckless towards bikers - I agree.
British Isles - well, if you like green, you're right there. ;-) I'd either
recommend Wales (Snowdonia region) or Scotland. The latter is quite an
obvious destination and deserves all the fame it gets -- but Wales can also
be quite spectacular and I had a good time there. IMHO, Wales tends a bit
to get overlooked because of its more famous neighbour up north. Doesn't
mean it isn't also very touristy, though.

Joe,
Try The Netherlands. There are bicycle paths along the roads throughout
the country, with their own traffic signals. It is very safe because you
are normally 10 to 20 feet from any auto or truck. In the cities
bicycles and bicycle paths are everywhere. Just follow the locals and
you'll have no trouble. The country is fun and fascinating. Almost
everybody speaks English.

Yes, but the Netherlands have certain deficiencies in the hilly department.
They were first to the queue when the plains were handed out, though.

Yes, but the Netherlands have certain deficiencies in the hilly department.

We don't know if the OP prefers hills, but it's probably safe to assume
that the majority of cyclists do not. They want fun, not sports.
