We are also trying to get an estimate on total vacation costs, however that is
difficult not knowing car rental expenses, food costs, entrance fees to museums,...
Anyone have any suggestions/experience on how to arrive at a very rough estimate on
costs? I realize expenses vary depending on whether you are eating at five star
restaurants or street vendors.

Eurocamp also offer a flydrive option to some of their sites although I know in my experience many only went to that site for a couple of nights and went on to visit a couple of others on their break, this year we had Americans, Canadians and Australians on our site all with a hire car.
Other companies that might offer this service are Keycamp and Eurosites, although you cannot mix holidays with different companies!
Hope this helps

Hi
we used Eurocamp for several years, in my experience you can completely
sure to be staying at the finest best kept campsites in Europe. We only
stopped using Eurocamp because the kids grew up, and we bought our own
gear.
The car issue is a problem - many campsites are in beautiful but remote
locations. With four people, it would seem to me to be an esential,
although many people in this NG may think otherwise.
