Default England in October

I am doing some travel planning, checking out possibilities. One possibility is to
spend three to four weeks in London during October and taking trips out and back via
Brit Rail flexipass. This would limit me to traveling in Southeast. What can I expect

Well that varies from year to year I suppose. One year I was in Britain there was a
three month period - ending in mid-October iirc - with no rain at all. In other years
you will encounter a more humid weather.

But the your idea sounds a bit odd to me anyway. What reason do you have for staying
exactly in London? For the days you really want to visit London itself - great. But
the accomodation prices are so high that I'd never stay there just overnight and
travel outside at daytime. There might be some exceptions if you want to visit
theatres or similar things every other night, of course. But in other British cities
(e.g. Manchester and many others) you also could find a lot of cultural
possibilities. And a lot of smaller towns would have good rail access, too, I
suppose...

I am thinking of booking a room in a flat with kitchen available, and found Studios92
that offers very reasonable rates. I love London and would enjoy exploring it at my
leisure. Also want to take in theater I have had great luck in the past with same day
tickets on the senior discount plan. I got excellent seats for 10 pounds or less.

The cities I want to visit are all within a day trip radius of London. Portsmouth,
Bath, Salisbury are among them.

I am not as much a "sight seerer" these days as a wanderer. I like to explore
different areas of a large city like London or Paris and see what I may find. I do
love art and can spend a lot of time in the museums. More than a day for each. Also
browsing in used bookstores.

I always look for inexpensive accomodations so I can stay a few weeks. And having a
kitchen available would save me many pounds. What's more, much as I love London, it
is my least favorite city to eat out in.

I have visited London seven times but have not yet had enough!

Expect the British weather not to follow any set pattern in October, just like any
other month of the year. Temperature will probably be between 5 and 15 Celsius,
although very occasionally it could go within 5 degrees either side of that.

As long as you're no expecting it to be hot, it's one of the nicest months of the
year to visit England. You'll get some rain, but you should get some sun also. Almost
anything except snow may turn up!

Agree about the weather.

You need not be limited to the south east. From London fast trains will permit you to
make brief visits at least, out and back in a day, to places such as Exeter,
Bristol/Bath, Cardiff and beyond in Wales, the whole of the Midlands (if you really
want to!), Liverpool, Manchester, York, Cambridge, the whole of East Anglia.

A single night away - and the whole of England and Wales and most of Scotland is
possible, though to make some of the farter points worth the effort, 2 nights would
be better!

Oi! That's where I'm from. Nothing wrong with the Midlands if you like that
sort of thing.

Yes, you probably didn't know that special areas have been introduced for this. If
that's all you're interested in, perhaps you'd better steer clear of the Midlands
after all

Frankly, you could get anything except (probably) particularly cold weather! 50%
chance of rain, 10% chance of high winds, 30% chance of 60F+, 30% chance of 50F or
below temperatures is the best I can guess.

We were in England last October. First night there we had pounding rain, and after
that mild to cool weather with light rain off and on, mainly cloudy. We took
umbrellas and plowed through. Went to Hadrian's Wall and the moors and in the drab
weather it was very atmospheric and beautiful.
