End of year - Tuscany, Switzerland, Croatia
Man, I hope this isn't too late to start planning a year-end trip. The idea
is to actually spend Christmas and New Year's in Europe. I've been over
there to Rome, Prague and Paris in November, so have some idea of what to
expect, but it wasn't the holidays (except for Armistice Day), so in some
respects this is a new trip.
It'll just be me and my boyfriend, who will meet up with me on the back half
of his trip (he's going to Ireland before, around mid-December).
I'm not sure yet where we'll spend the two actual holidays, but am
considering an agriturismo in Tuscany. However, I've not stayed in one
before, so I'm wondering what the odds of finding one for a week around
Christmas and/or New Year's is. Less than a week (5 like days) would be
better, but it seems most of these go by the week.
Are there concepts equivalent to an argiturismo in Switzerland and Croatia?
Also, basic question: most imagery I've seen of Tuscany is during the
sunkissed summer months... how is the scenery in the country at year's end?
Would a car rental make more sense than a railpass, for about a 2-week stay
in that part of Europe?
Thanks! I'll probably have some followup questions, as we think through this
trip more.

Too late? I thought it was still too early. I don't usually start planning
my Christmas-to-New-Year European getaways until early October or so.
Granted I've only done this twice - once London and once Prague but I did
have any problems getting good deals on airfare or accommodations either
time.
