Email exchange (temporary) when in France ?

Going to Belgium & France next week, would like to be able to get/send
emails via Apple iBook.
Can anyone advise - e.g, cabling? Also, I realise that web-based emails
such as Yahoo, hotmail and Netscape would be able to provide the
emailing addesses etc, but don't I need an ISP first to get onto the
'Net before I can access Yahoo etc? (Normally use Netscape 7, via
Telewestcable modem, but iBook has internal modem of course for such as
this).
Probably naive queston, but never tried this before, so thanks in
advance for any advice.

wouldn't it be easier just to go to an internet cafe and use your Yahoo or
Hotmail account? Or do you need the computer for other purposes?

I use the French "La Poste" Post Office. You can buy a cheap access card
(about 4 Euro) and they have a kiosk in each La Poste and, you will be
pleased to know, they are iMacs. The keyboards are slightly different.

a) A check of your blueyonder ISP tells me that they have web-based email.
Before you leave set yourself up with it to make sure it works. You'll sign
on with your usual name and password as usual with them. [If Blueyonder
didn't have a webmail setup you could get an account with Yahoo and set it
to retrieve your mail from your ISP pop account, but you're in luck, they do
have one, so you don't need to do that.]
b) Go to an internet cafe and follow their directions to log into the net.
Go to the blueyonder website and click on netmail. That's all there is to
it. If you are taking an iBook and want to transfer files up and down, be
sure to take along some PC formatted floppies. It's unlikely you'll find
Macs anywhere in i-net cafes. Your concierge in the hotel should almost
certainly be able to tell you where you can find an i-net cafe or may even
have a room at the hotel you can use it.

I can't speak for the imac but when I took my laptop because it was set
up with all the email accounts I needed for work I went to an Internet
cafe and used the my Ethernet connector to access the world. It meant
unplugging the cable at the back of the computer and putting it in mine.
I don't know if you have such a connector but it was well worth the
investment.
I did ask permission first before unplugging the computer :-)

Many thanks for some very useful advice (especially Ron's tip about
ethernet, which is probably what I'll do - thought I'd have to locate
some strange BT > French adapter - and Clare's thoughtful check of
Blueyonder, which I'd neglected to consider!
