Default Edinburgh for two days at the end of august...

thanks for the recommendations for scandinavia!! we had a great time
and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone considering it!! we
were in oslo, copenhagen and stockholm and they all absolutely rule!!
except drinking is WAY too expensive to bother with...

but now we're wondering about edinburgh... it's proving difficult to
find a place during the festival that doesn't cost like 130 or more.
any thoughts on hotels or b&bs? thanks!!

Edinburgh will prove to be expensive + as well. I've used this place before
and perhaps there exists a vacancy.

there's a vacancy, but it's like 250 for two nights.... maybe this
group isn't for the budget minded... ;-)

You need to specify your budget. Some people think £130 is cheap.

Try one of the backpacker hostels, there are lots of them and they're
the last to fill up. End of August isn't too bad, the Festival's
petering out by then.

well i did say it's hard to find something that "doesn't cost like 130
or more". i'd think that anyone who thinks 130 is cheap, doesn't
really care about things that actually are cheap and wouldn't be
caught dead or dying in something that actually is cheap... and i
don't mean that to sound like there's anything wrong with that; i just
mean that 130 is actually expensive and you could find perfect hotels
for WAY less and spend more on food and booze everywhere that we've
ever been... we usually use priceline and/or regularly come up with
completely clean, safe and central places that are under 70 in
american, canadian, asian and european cities... scandinavia was hard,
but we found good, cheaper places... and edinburgh is proving really
difficult as well... so far! but we'll get it!!

You can do that in Edinburgh as well, just not during the festival.

It isn't the town that's the problem, it's the event.

Hey there,

The Edinburgh festival is a great place to be this time of year,
really exciting.

I already went up at the start of the festival but I'm going up again
this weekend. I've booked a trip with Density Entertaiments:
www.densityents.co.uk. They provide everything; travel to and from the
city, accommodation and tickets to see some shows. It's all reasonably
priced but I think you have to be travelling from London to get the
best of it.

Check it out anyway. I hope it suits,
