It was based on what I remember from the after the general 130km
Richtgeschwindigkeit became commonplace a few years ago. You are probably
right. 3rd party should always be honoured, but I vaguely remember a few
news stories where I got the impression this wasn't the case.
I'm probably going senile, so just ignore me.

In fact, increasing the speed by 60 mph from 140 to 200 will double the
kinetic energy. It will double your braking distance. However, it will
SUBSTANTIALLY reduce the margin of error for other road users if they
happen to pull out in front of you. When I say that, I don't mean the
idiots that pull out 20 feet in front of you, but the ones who look in
their mirror and can just see you 500 yards away.
