While I enjoy witty repartee as much as anyone, I still wonder about the
original post. People know how to dress for the beloved "Cheap Seats" but
on a hot summer evening, how formal are the good ones? Are men wearing
jackets and ties? Surely we need not pack the tiara?????

Interesting question. I don't know the answer since, altho we have spent
some time in Verona, it was not during opera season. To me Verona is
pretty stylish and I don't think you could err on the snazzy side so to
speak. In my experience at opera houses here in the States - I think
that San Francisco, for example, is more formal than New York (where you
are likely to see a mix of dress even in the main orchestra section).
You might try calling your hotel and see if they have any thoughts on
the matter. Out of curiosity where will you be staying?
Since it will likely be warm (check www.wunderground.com for stats) you
might want just take along the smaller 'summer' tiara.

We were in the good seats last year and we wore normal street clothes.
There was a group in front of us dressed in shorts and t-shirts. Some
people were a bit more dressed up, but I would say the tiara is
certainly not necessary.

No tiara? Drat.
But thanks for a straight-forward answer, Barbara.
