I am planning on spending one day in Dresden. It will be during the
last week of this month (September). In making train plans, coming
from Berlin, I would appreciate knowing about how much time to allocate
on being a tourist in the "old"
part of the city. Also, what would you suggest as a good itinerary?
Thank you all , in advance.

Try the Green Vault which just returned to its original location in the
Residenz earlier this month.
Add
http://www.skd-dresden.de/de/ausstel...am_tigris.html
and
http://www.skd-dresden.de/de/museen/alte_meister.html
Takes a day or two (count several hours per exhibition).

Might be a bit of a late reply but I was in Dresden a few months ago
and wrote it up on www.pdaworldtravel.com.
Didn't spend much time in the old part of the city though. A river
trip to Pillnitz doesn't take long and was very nice... you might be
able to fit that in with the rest of the old town.
