dinan area
HI - will be spending a week close to Dinan soon (near to St helens
about 6 km to the east I am told, and for more granularity Le
Perroquet Vert), and am looking for all and any recommendations,
reports, and negatives (where NOT to go/eat/shop etc!). Obvious
places excepted (ie plenty of googling available for WW2 beaches, Mt
Saint Michel etc), Dinan itself
Family of 6= 1 energetic grandmother, 3 children (12, 10, 7) and 2
busy parents :-)
Interested in beaches - bathing yes, but also for walking and other
interest (other than the obvious WW2 connections etc) close by.
Chateaux, woods, odd little local eccentricities (caves, whatever).
Don;t have to be grand, huge touristy type places (cf versailles) -
could be quirky and worth an hour of visit etc.
Also, places to eat (good value menus of especial interest :-) -
creperies, bars, cafes etc. Interesting little villages etc.
Markets, and even supermarkets (for a one off set-us-up-for-the-week
type shop anyway). Cider farms (too far west?)? Creperies, moules
et frites?
We enjoy walks (reasonably short - 70 year old and a 7 year old to
consider :-), beaches, swimming, splashing, exploring , eating (rude
not to in France anyway), drinking in moderation (ditto ;-), and
seeing what the locals see. Village markets, small town cafes,
farmers drinking holes. Canoeing on rivers?
Not bothered/interested particularly in the main centres (and research
is easier anyway :-), or tourist traps (so places to avoid also
useful)... we are more at home in where people live than where
everybody else is visiting (accepting that we are tourists also by
definition!).
cheers!

Beaches :
- Val Andr
- Sables d'Or
- Erquy

Water is rather cool / cold. Nice white sand.
Beware of the tide. Don't stay on the small rocks or little islands when
tide is climbing.
Walking:
- along the coast

Cider and pancakes every where :
- Crpes with sugar or marmelade
- Galettes (sarazin black wheat) salted with ham or eggs.
Likely to be more expensive close to the sea.
