Re: Digital Camera - Memory card is full!? How?
Only some digital cameras have a movie capability, and some can add sound.
But these are memory gobbling features. Unless one is carrying a pocketful
of memory discs, it is advisable to avoid taking movie clips when
traveling.

Being in Australia this outlet http://www.powerinnumbers.com.au/ has the
best prices, they quote in $US so it gives you some idea. I assume they
freight to anywhere & you have the added advantage of not having to pay the
local tax!

Or just select some movies...
Before going to travel, divide the total memory into the days you are
travelling. With that MB per day, know how much you can spend in video
+ different quality photos, or just photos without video.
Anyway, know that burning a CD is quite common in Europe, but also it
can depend on the country/area.

To ftp the files, quite a lot of MB, you need a lot of time.
Possibilities are:
- Finding a person/friend that can do it from his/her home/office.
- In a cybercafe talking to the owner/staff.
- Or if you plan to do a lot of things in internet (quite a lot)
during that time.
In any case connect the next day to the ftp server and see that you
have all the files there before deleting them from the card.
In case that you leave the work in other's hands, for security
reasons, change the server's access password if you can do it.

Re: Digital Camera - Memory card is full!? How?
I'm thinking of buying a Sony Mavica. It doesn't use memory cards,
but records the pictures directly on a mini-CD, which you can then put
into your computer to read without any downloading from the camera.
Each CD holds from 60 (with maximum resolution) up to several hundred
pictures. CDs are cheap to buy and very convenient to carry. This
seems like the answer to the storage problem of travelling with a
digital camera. I certainly do NOT want to interrupt my trip to go
into an internet cafe and empty my memory.
Does anyone here have any experience with the Mavica? The model I'm
looking at is the CD400, with 4 megapixels and 3x digital zoom. I'd
welcome feedback on it...

A friend of mine bought one recently and I used it a few times. I had
thought that it would be terrific to just use CDs instead of a memory
cards. But there's a real downside: it is painfully slow. It takes
what seems like forever to write the photo to the CD once you've taken
it. So that means you have a long time to wait between photos. This
may not bother you, but I've found that even with my Nikon 990, which is
much faster between shots, I frequently miss a shot because I'm waiting
for the camera to finish writing to the memory card.

I had an older model Mavica (now replaced) with which I was very pleased.
The disc medium is very convenient, as you say. The screen was good.
Interface straightforward and not annoying. I'd say it was a little
bulkier than the average digital camera.
