Default Dark side of Europe??

I am not sure if this is the right place for what I have to tell you.
It is about the "dark side" of Europe, the so-called East Europe, a
subject that is, still, not welcome on any forum on the Internet. I am
from Western part of Europe and, recognize that up until now, I was
very suspicious to anything related to East.
I have just returned from a long journey in Romania, Transylvania to
be precisely, and I tell you that nothing you hear on the news here is
really happening there. I have never felt to live in the dark side of
Europe, not a moment, the people are very civilized, the life is much
easier there than in many other western countries and the city where I
lived, Sibiu, is a historical masterpiece which deserves to be
mentioned along with Prague, Freiburg or Colmar. For some of you who
do not know how to take off the iron curtain from your brain, I can be
more specific on a private message.
Otherwise, just check the city web site at www.sibiu.ro to convince
yourself.

You seem to be very deluded, the Iron Curtain came down 13 years ago and Western Europeans at least are on the whole very welcoming and positive about the opportunities, peoples and future for the Baltic states, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria.

What exactly is your point?

the reason why eastern europe has a bad reputation is the fact that we have
been indoctrinated by western propaganda for so long; for years americans
(and allies) told us that 'pure evil' was living on the other side of the
iron curtain
I really like eastern europe !

For what it is worth it has been a long time since Americans had negative
thoughts about Eastern Europe. Travel to Prague, Krakow, Bucharest is
possibly a bit exotic, but much appreciated. Even travel to places like
the Republic of Georgia is on my to-do list.

The place to not travel now, in most American's minds, is the middle East.

Pretty harmless spam though.
It's a pretty good website just giving mostly tourist information about
Sibiu, i.e. useful in a travel forum.
And Sibiu is a lovely town.
I was there briefly in the last days of Ceausescu.
It should be more more fun with food available and people able to talk
freely to foreigners.

Alan, my dear,
I am a businessperson, not a web designer. Looks to me that you are
the kind of person I've had in mind when I sent my message.
After all, how could possible be spam to advertise a tourist web site
on a tourist forum? If the link was directed to my web site then you
can talk about spam, otherwise not.

I agree, Mr. Bowman, if your advertising is regarding European travel,
and posted to a newsgroup about European travel, then it is at least
relevant. However, most of us define "spam" as unsolicited advertising
via the internet, so pertinent or not, it's still spam!

I've posted the link to the tourist site of Sibiu because was relevant
to my message. You must be aware that 90% of this Forum never heard of
Sibiu and I wanted to give them a thought of what I was talking about.
I still not consider that a spam. In fact, all the messages posted on
Forum are unsolicited and lot of them contain advertising in a way or
another.

Martin:

You may not know that Evelyn is the self-appointed arbiter and policeman
of all travel-related posts.

Hundreds of posts have been made -- unsolicited, every one -- since
otherwise one would not even know who the 'poster' was.

She arbitrarily picks on people with no logic.

quote the posts to which you reply, "Dr." Gittleman?)

Actually to pick on people who display no logic is not arbitrary, it would
seem to be with a definite purpose.
